Well, this post is aged for a bit (almost 2 months), but anyway.

New features

Add confirmation on delete #419

A simple feature, yet SiebenApp has been lacking it for years. Before, there was a risk of unintentional deletion of the selected goal when pressing a d button. This action was immediate and undoable.

confirmation of delete

Now, a goal could be deleted only after an explicit confirmaion. It’s much better.

Do not redraw all goals when it’s possible #371

Again, there’s a regular need to control and improve application performance. As we gradually restructure and extend internal app architecture, slow points migrate from one place to another. But with a little help from profiler, we cound find them and fix.

That was one of these improvements.

Show goal ids in progress view

Another helpful improvement. It’s mostly needed when there’s a need to perform some manipulations with goal tree using sieben-manage script. Some commands (like extract) need a real goal ID. Now it’s very easy to see it.

goal ids

Probably, I would rename “Progress view” into “Statistics view” at some moment in the future. This name should reflect it’s current abilities better than existing one and should open some new possibilities.

Future plans

In version 0.14, I plan to focus mainly on the visual side of the application:

  1. Issues like “Rendering: tweak algorithms for better placement of edges (#312)” and “Rendering: various improvements (#447)” would affect on how do we draw goals and edges between them.
  2. In “Move from Qt5 to Qt6 (#450)”, I plan to migrate to the modern version of Qt framework. Most probably, it wouldn’t significantly affect UI behavior or look and feel.
  3. A new, experimental way of filtering goals is planned to implement in “Hide all subgoals of a blocked goal (#449)”. It would definitely affect UI behavior, but only in a separate view mode.

I’m not sure if all of these issues would be done at the moment when it’s time to make a new release. The development process of the project tends to be quite lazy for the last year. But I’ll try to do my best.
